List of Operational Amateur Radio Satellites
Part of what makes this list important is that it allows the "entry level" operator to get into satellites easily
gear that's easy to set-up. Typically, you pass the Technician class and have a 2 Meter setup that will work
for SO-50 and several other birds. Amateur Satellites in the 144MHz and 440MHz frequency bands typically use antenna
that
ere more portable and manageable than the lower frequencies. Many of the satellites can be operated with HT's and
QRP level power. However, a there's no substitute for a good antenna system.
Several of the Satellites operate in a data mode such as PSK or APSK. For info on those frequencies, look here or here (SeeSat) for more
information.
Below is a list of "Operational" status satellites that work in the 145MHz and 440MHz bands. Name, Mode, Frequency
and uplink/downlink designations are given.
You may also want to check out < a href=http://www.heavens-above.com/> this site if your interested in more
satellites or what to help look for some of the more obscure birds like MIsty 1 and Misty 2. These two birds
were launched in the early 90's by the CIA and NRO as a new breed of "un-trackable" satellites for high altitude
observation of earth subjects.
